SANTA PAULA : Car Hits Building; Elderly Couple Die
An elderly couple died in Santa Paula on Tuesday when their car accelerated out of control and rammed into an office building, authorities said.
Police withheld identification of the couple until relatives could be notified.
The accident occurred about 2 p.m. as the couple drove in the parking lot of the Santa Paula Library on North 8th Street, Santa Paula Police Officer Robert Oliveras said.
Witnesses reported hearing the car accelerate sharply as it sped across the street and rammed into an office building opposite the library, Oliveras said.
The couple were taken to Santa Paula Memorial Hospital, where they died Tuesday evening, Deputy Coroner Dale Zentzis said.
