Nation IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : Ex-BCCI Official Held in Bribe Probe
The former head of the Bank of Credit & Commerce International’s Washington office has been arrested and will be questioned by investigators in Washington and New York about allegations that BCCI bribed U.S. government officials and gave and received bribes from corporations, sources said. Sani Ahmad, who was ordered held without bail, and more than a dozen other BCCI employees had sought to contact and entertain government officials, embassy personnel and executives of such organizations as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, according to documents.
