Half of Israel’s Soviet immigrants at the mandatory draft age show little enthusiasm for army service, according to a survey published by the newspaper Maariv.

Only 26% of the immigrants from the former Soviet Union between ages 17 and 23 showed a high degree of willingness to serve in the army, compared to 96% of other people of conscription age, the survey said.

Fifty percent of those arriving from the former Soviet Union said they do not want to join the army at all.
