Bush’s Trip to Japan

It seems to me that President Bush’s journey was misdirected. His tough talk should have been reserved for the American people. I can still spot the vestiges of Persian Gulf support stickers on the bumpers of imported automobiles. Why is it not clear to every U.S. citizen that the unemployed American auto worker can’t afford to make the purchases that help keep our economy strong? Buying U.S. goods is ultimately the best policy for us all, and the nationalistic fervor that swept us a year ago needs to be rechanneled toward this goal. Flag-waving is cheap talk. Simply stated, real patriots buy American cars.
