Record Profit for Intel in ’91

Capping a banner year that was nonetheless clouded by growing competition in its core business, Intel Corp. on Wednesday reported stronger-than-expected profit for the fourth quarter of 1991 and record results for the year.

The Santa Clara-based computer chip maker said profit for the quarter reached $189 million, or 90 cents per share, up 15% from the year-ago period.

For the year, Intel earned $817 million, or $3.92 per share, up 22% from a year ago. Revenue rose 22% to $4.78 billion.
