Alhambra : Grants for Sign Upgrading
The City Council approved a proposal Monday that will allow business owners along Valley Boulevard to apply for grants from the city to bring their signs into conformity with local standards.
In a report, Assistant City Manager P. Michael Paules said the boulevard is unattractive, partly because many nonconforming business signs along the thoroughfare give the area a cluttered appearance.
Previously, the city could only use its $80,000 in Community Development Block Grant money for funding such improvements along portions of Main Street and Mission Road. But last November, city staff convinced the Department of Housing and Urban Development that Valley Boulevard is also blighted, so the federal agency agreed to allow the funds to be applied there as well.
