In Defense of Soka’s Plans

Share

I was interested in the recent article about Soka University, especially the comment from a park official about the “ripples of impact” that the university would cause.

Here are some of the other ripples:

The university will establish a much-needed library for the community. The university will create athletic facilities. The university will provide educational opportunities for local and international students. The university will preserve most of its land as open space.

Soka has offered a $20-million park for free, but park officials haven’t accepted it.

A university spokesman has also told me that the expected construction could pump about $250 million into the local economy over a 25-year period. Not bad for tough economic times.

I support Soka University, which will benefit our community.
