UCSD Stretches Its Streak to Seven Victories in a Row

The UC San Diego men’s basketball team stretched its winning streak to seven games Friday with a 81-62 victory over Bethany Bible College in Northern California. The Tritons (12-4) led, 44-31, at halftime and weren’t seriously threatened in the second half.

The Triton outrebounded the home team, 35-25, and made five three-point baskets to Bethany’s two. UCSD’s Chris Moore led all scorers with 19 points, and Rick Batt added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

On the first night of West Coast Conference play, the University of San Diego opened in style, beating St. Mary’s in Moraga, 69-45. It was the third consecutive road victory for USD, which was led by Chris Enger’s 21 points and 10 rebounds. Jill Shaver added 14 points. USD is 6-7 overall. St. Mary’s, one of the preseason conference favorites, fell to 11-3.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

In their first match of the season, San Diego State lost to third-ranked Stanford in five games in the Collegiate Classic at Pepperdine. John Hyden (17), Aaron Boss (16), Todd Yarbrough (11) and Rob Thomas (10) were the Aztecs kill leaders.

SDSU meets Loyola Marymount at 5 p.m. today.

UC San Diego dropped a nonconference match to UC Irvine, 15-13, 15-10, 15-5. Nate Brown led the Tritons (0-3) with 17 kills.
