Nixon on U.S. Power

Share

Our elder statesman, Nixon, usually so remarkable for his historical memory and political astuteness, seemed to have forgotten an important history lesson in his advice to Israelis that they act upon the proposition of “land for peace” (Jan. 9). The last person to advise such a misguided notion was British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, when he ceded the Sudetenland (northern Czechoslovakia) to Hitler, proclaiming “peace in our time.” One year later, Hitler invaded Poland.
