Beverly Hills : Speed Bumps Coming Out

Share

Experimental speed bumps installed in the southwest corner of the city will be removed, the City Council unanimously agreed Tuesday.

The speed bumps, about two dozen in all, had divided residents over their usefulness and generated criticism against the council for failing to live up to a promise to have them removed at the conclusion of a testing period last December.

On Tuesday, council members concluded that their credibility in the community was worth more than the cost of removing the bumps. Removing the bumps will cost about $25,000, and it will cost about $15,000 more if the council later decides to reinstall them permanently.

While the bump-removal project is put up for public bid, the city will attempt to lower several bumps by about half an inch to see if it reduces neighbors’ complaints of noise caused by vehicles passing over them.
