THOUSAND OAKS : 2 Cable Franchises Extended 4 Months

Share

Franchises with two cable firms that serve the Conejo Valley will be extended four months until Thousand Oaks officials can iron out final details of their renewal, the City Council decided.

The council had agreed last year to extend existing franchise agreements with Falcon Cable and Ventura County Cablevision only until the end of this month, but Tuesday’s decision will push back the expiration date to the end of May.

Twenty-year franchise agreements with the two firms expired in October.

The extra time will give officials a chance to resolve remaining issues such as the length of the franchise and franchise fees, Councilman Alex Fiore said. “We’ll have it fully negotiated in April or May,” Fiore said. Normally, negotiations could take up to three years, he said.

City spokeswoman Shirley Cobb said about 35,000 households that get cable television were recently surveyed to determine how the service can be improved.
