AIR WAR: Yorba Linda’s Henry W. Wedaa, who represents local cities on the South Coast Air Quality Management District board, is facing stiff opposition today in his reelection bid. Wedaa, considered by his critics as not conservative enough on environmental issues, admits it could be a close vote. His most serious challenger is Costa Mesa Councilman Peter F. Buffa. . . . “This campaign has been more intense than any I have ever seen in Orange County,” Wedaa says.

Helene Elliott was with the Los Angeles Times’ Sports department from 1989 to 2024, first as a staff writer and then, starting in 2006, as a columnist.
