HUNTINGTON BEACH : School Board Hires New Administrator

Huntington Beach City School District trustees, following a closed-session meeting this week, hired a new assistant superintendent of business services.

Jerry Buchanan, currently assistant superintendent for administrative services at the Bassett Unified School District in Los Angeles County, will succeed Gary Burgner at the Huntington Beach elementary school district post. Burgner left the job in October to accept a similar position with the Huntington Beach Union High School District.

Buchanan will join the district on a date that is agreeable to the Bassett district. His new salary has yet to be announced.

Before joining Bassett, Buchanan was assistant superintendent for business services at the El Monte City School District.

Buchanan, who is also a school board member in the Centralia School District in Anaheim, lives in Buena Park.
