Reader Says This Story Completely Missed Point

I was very disappointed by your article, “Breathless” (Jan. 15) celebrating spearfishing.

There is no room in this enlightened age for the killing of wild animals in their native habitat for fun. And as in the hunting of game on land, only the prime example of each species are sought for destruction.

As for the sporting aspect: a slow-moving, gentle, unsuspecting, curious creature is no match for a a speargun in the hands of any “sportsman.”

The Times should put its influence to good use and decry the senseless destruction of the remaining wildlife on this planet.
