Glendale : College Ethics Code Urged

Share

Community College Supt. John Davitt recommended Monday that the Board of Trustees adopt a code of ethics outlining board members’ responsibilities to the college and the community. The code embodies broad principles of ethical conduct.

It contains seven standards, among them, that trustees resist using their positions to benefit themselves, avoid influence-peddling and ensure that public funds are spent appropriately.

The codes were suggested by the college’s accreditation agency, the Western Assn. of Schools and Colleges, and by national and state trustees groups. Codes from community colleges in California, Washington and Arizona were examined to prepare the document.

The trustees reviewed the code without comment and will vote on it at a future meeting, Davitt said.
