Andre Cason broke the world indoor record in the 60-meter dash with a clocking of 6.45 seconds in a meet at Ghent, Belgium. Fellow American Leroy Burrell held the former record at 6.48 seconds.

Cason, the indoor world champion, easily beat Frankie Fredericks of Namibia, who appeared to have broken the record earlier. Fredericks had been clocked at 6.46, but Cason protested that Fredericks had a false start. Officials agreed with Cason and the race was run again. Fredericks finished second.

Cason is scheduled to run against Ben Johnson in the 50-meter dash at the Sunkist Invitational at the Sports Arena Feb. 15.
