California IN BRIEF : SACRAMENTO : Duke, LaRouche Rejected for Ballot

Secretary of State March Fong Eu on Friday refused to give former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke a spot on the Republican ballot and Lyndon LaRouche a place on the Democratic ballot for the June presidential primary election. A spokeswoman said both were turned down for ballot positions because they failed to qualify for federal campaign funds. They could still get on the ballot if they qualify for federal campaign funds by April 4 or submit necessary qualifying petitions by March 20. As of now, the Republican presidential ballot will list President Bush and conservative columnist Pat Buchanan. The Democratic presidential ballot will list former California Gov. Edmund G. (Jerry) Brown Jr., Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton, Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin, Nebraska Sen. Bob Kerrey and former Massachusetts Sen. Paul Tsongas.
