State Sen. Green Announces He Will Not Run for Reelection

State Sen. Cecil Green (D-Norwalk), whose district was carved up when the state Supreme Court redrew district boundaries, announced Friday he will not seek reelection this year.
Green, first elected in a bitter 1987 special election, issued a one-page announcement in which he said: “I have looked at all the options available to me and have decided that running for public office in 1992 is not one of them.”
Green, 67, did not elaborate on the reasons for his retirement. However, last month Green’s office confirmed that he is suffering from emphysema, which forces him to use an electric cart to get around the Capitol. At the time, an aide said Green’s health might prevent him from seeking reelection.
