Hello, Is This Ms. Goodwrench?

A car dealer is apologizing to hundreds of customers who mistakenly were sent a telephone sex line number to call for repairs instead of a mechanic.

Someone at Freehold Auto Group goofed when they typed a letter suggesting owners of 1986, 1987 and 1989 Hyundai Excels call an 800-number and make an appointment for free replacement of valves that could be corroding.

The number given actually directed customers to call a 900-number sex line.

“We tried to do a good thing by sending out those letters to alert the customers to the recall,” Sal Hernandez, service manager at the dealership, said. “A good thing is turning into a nightmare.”

About 1,000 letters of apology mailed last week included the correct toll-free number. Hernandez said customers seemed good-natured about the error.
