Nissan Postpones Tennessee Engine Plant: Nissan has decided to delay building an engine plant in Decherd, Tenn., because of uncertainty about the economy, President Jerry Benefield said. Nissan had wanted to open the plant in 1996 at an estimated cost of $600 million. Nissan makes Sentras and light pickup trucks in Smyrna, 25 miles southeast of Nashville. A $500-million expansion there will allow the auto maker to add a third car line.
