SIMI VALLEY : Officials Discuss 25-Meter Park Pool

Share

Simi Valley school and park officials are discussing plans to build a 25-meter pool at Rancho Santa Susana Community Park to replace an aging Simi Valley High School pool that needs costly repairs.

Although a pool was not originally planned for the park, officials say it could be placed near the community center that is being designed and scheduled for completion in mid-1993.

“It would be a wonderful setup,” said Jeff Anderson, a Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District administrator. “The park district is totally supportive if it can be worked out financially.”

At a meeting Tuesday night, Simi Valley Unified School District board members said they plan to explore various funding sources for the proposed park pool, estimated to cost $500,000. Exactly how the costs would be shared by the government agencies has not been determined.

Extensive repairs on the existing Simi Valley High pool have forced swimmers and water polo team members to practice two miles away at the Sequoia Park pool since the fall of 1990. The repairs were initially estimated at $100,000, but school officials now say they will run about $300,000. Officials said the money would be better spent on a new pool.

If a new pool is built, the 25-yard-long Simi Valley High pool would be removed to make room for a building, said Roger Grady, director of school facilities for the district.

City officials are scheduled to meet Tuesday with school and park district representatives to discuss the issue.
