Planners OK 84 Houses in Canyon Country

The Los Angeles County Regional Planning Commission on Wednesday unanimously approved an 84-house development on 196 acres of gently sloping property in Canyon Country.

The development by Watt America Inc. would be southeast of Sierra Highway and Agua Dulce Canyon Road. Although the surrounding properties are mostly vacant, the county’s General Plan calls for the area to be developed residentially.

Two people objected to the project. One said she had read in a newspaper article that all 84 houses would be built on only 8.5 acres. The other said he was told that a sewage treatment plant would be built in the back yard of a house he wants to build.

County planners said the concerns were based on misinformation. They added that the houses will be spread out over the site and will be connected to a regional sewage treatment plant, which is on the other side of Sierra Highway from the man’s property.
