Hollywood : House Arrest for Landlord

Share

The owner of a Hollywood apartment complex will begin serving 45 days of court-ordered house arrest Friday for failing to repair what city officials said are slum conditions in her building.

Hasna M. Bashara, 57, of Hollywood was ordered by a Los Angeles Municipal Court judge to wear an electronic monitoring device and stay around the clock in the 20-unit building at 642 N. Plymouth Blvd. through March 23.

Deputy City Atty. Michael R. Wilkinson, who is handling the case, said after a court hearing Wednesday that Bashara must stay in her room from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. But he said Bashara can spend her days anywhere within the complex, “hopefully overseeing all the repairs that need to be made.”

Bashara had missed one deadline to report for the house arrest, and city authorities said they were seeking a jail sentence for her. But Bashara was given one more chance, Wilkinson said, after promising to show up Friday.
