Venice : Panel to Air Tenants’ Offer

Share

The Venice Community Planning Advisory Committee will meet tonight to discuss the attempt by tenants at Lincoln Place Apartments to buy and run the complex themselves.

Two weeks ago, tenants submitted an offer to purchase the aging, 795-unit complex in Venice from the Oakland-based real estate firm that owns it. Tenant organizers will not disclose the amount of the offer but say they have asked Transaction Companies Ltd. to respond within 45 days.

Lincoln Place is one of the largest concentrations of affordable housing on the Westside. The 40-acre property also has development potential, however, and for years tenants have been fighting the owner’s plans to raze the units and replace them mostly with condominiums. Tentative plans call for a modest number of apartments to be constructed for the elderly and other low-income tenants who currently live at Lincoln Place.

The committee will also discuss a proposal to open a jazz and blues nightclub at 310 Washington Blvd.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at 7166 W. Manchester Ave.
