Apple, Japan’s Sharp Discuss Alliance: A report in the San Francisco Chronicle said Apple and Sharp were nearing an agreement under which Sharp would build a pocket-sized, pen-operated computer for Apple, which Apple would sell in the United States as part of its new consumer electronics line and Sharp would market in Japan as part of its Wizard line of electronic organizers. In January, Apple announced plans to push ahead with a new class of small, consumer-oriented computer products, and said that link-ups with Japanese electronics firms would be a key part of the strategy. An Apple spokeswoman declined comment on the report but confirmed that talks with Sharp were underway.
