Share

Thousand Oaks has received a $25,000 grant from a national hospital chain to develop written and videotaped information on crime prevention for the city.

The grant from Kaiser Permanente will be used to develop Thousand Oaks’ Good Neighbor Model Program, aimed at schools, businesses, churches, senior citizens and service groups.

The city plans to produce a handbook on crime-fighting efforts Thousand Oaks has used that may be used to help other cities prevent crime, city spokeswoman Shirley Cobb said.

The city plans to distribute brochures to 35,000 households containing information on gang tendencies, drug-abuse resistance and crime prevention.

The grant will also pay for production of a video that could be used by instructors and parents, she said.

Thousand Oaks Mayor Robert E. Lewis and Councilman Alex Fiore are expected to receive the check on behalf of the city on Monday during a luncheon at the Westlake Hyatt Hotel.

Guest speaker at the luncheon will be Charlie J. Parson, director for the Southern California office of the FBI and a Thousand Oaks resident. He is expected to speak on the agency’s decision to shift officers from intelligence work to anti-gang enforcement, Cobb said.

The luncheon is open to the public on a space-available basis, Cobb said. For more information, call 818-719-4122.
