Countywide : Comment Period on Landfill Extended

Share

The Ventura County Regional Sanitation District announced Thursday that the period for public comment on the Bailard Landfill environmental impact report has been extended 45 days.

The document outlines the potential hazards of extending the life of the landfill near Oxnard from 1993, when its permit expires, until 1997.

The document is available in public libraries and at the Public Waste Management Agency in Ventura. It includes a discussion of the landfill’s effects on air quality, underground water, noise and other potential hazards, as well as a list of remedial actions to mitigate the problems.

After the original 45-day public comment period that began Monday expires, the document will be revised to incorporate public comments and then recirculated for another 45 days, district officials announced.

“Because the draft environmental impact report contains so many sensitive issues, we want to have the opportunity to add information as it becomes available, and we want to be as flexible as possible in our response to comments,” said Clint Whitney, the sanitation district’s general manager.
