UC Irvine Gets First Win of ’92
With his players offering him razors in the midst of the locker room celebration, UC Irvine Coach Rod Baker shaved his 3 1/2-week-old beard after Irvine broke an 11-game losing streak with a 76-68 Big West Conference victory over Fresno State Thursday night before 1,533 in the Bren Center.
Baker vowed on Jan. 11 not to shave until the Anteaters won.
Irvine guard Gerald McDonald scored a career-high 28 points, making all seven shots from the field, including two three-pointers, as Irvine (4-16, 1-100 won for the first time since Dec. 28. Keith Stewart added 16 points, making four of six three-pointers.
Fresno State fell to 14-8, 5-5.
