Continental Trims Losses, Posts Slim Quarterly Profit

Two of the nation’s largest airlines, Continental Airlines and Northwest Airlines, reported fourth-quarter and full-year 1991 operating results Friday that showed an improvement over figures from a year earlier.
But the carriers still lost money in 1991 as the red ink continues to mount for one of the worst years ever for U.S. commercial aviation.
The carriers’ parent companies both showed better results for the three months ending Dec. 31, but they had a mixed performance for the entire year.
