A 49-year-old fugitive who violated his parole by fleeing New Jersey a decade ago was arrested in Escondido, where he was working at a local feed store under an assumed name, FBI officials said.

Agents arrested Albert J. Thompson, who was allegedly using the alias of Alan Shultz, shortly after 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Thompson was convicted of child molestation in New Jersey in 1969 and was paroled in 1982, FBI officials said. In 1982, additional child molestation charges were filed against him, they said.

After fleeing New Jersey, Thompson moved to California for 10 years, where he used a fake Social Security number and the name Alan Shultz to gain employment, FBI officials said. Thompson is reportedly awaiting extradition to New Jersey to serve out his sentence.
