Mike Downey knows the value of a college degree as a sports journalist; Terry Donahue realizes what a degree means to him as a coach; and Sean LaChapelle woke up before turning professional. Tommy Maddox gave up his opportunity to be an educated quarterback and set a poor example for today’s younger athletes. UCLA will survive without him. And it does matter.
