GRIM DAYS AT GRANT HIGH

Share

While working as a teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District several years ago, I encountered problems similar to those mentioned in your article on Grant High School. The majority of the students in the schools I worked at seemed to have given up, and faculty members were stretched to the point of breaking. Our goals were still to teach, even if it meant hours of after-school work and hundreds of dollars out of our own pockets.

I suggest that those who blame teachers for the country’s problems spend a day at one of their local secondary schools and take a serious look at what is really going on. In order to improve education, all Americans need to start working together, instead of constantly passing the buck.
