GRIM DAYS AT GRANT HIGH

Share

“Grim Days at Grant High” provided readers with a view of the kinds of problems the dedicated educators in the Los Angeles Unified School District--and many other California districts--face every day.

In good times, those problems would be very difficult to overcome. With the budgets we operate under today, it’s truly a miracle that we accomplish any of our goals, and yet we do have many educational successes. The piece by David L. Kirp in the same issue (“Good Schools in Bad Times”), about three elementary schools, shows what can be done when the drive and innovative efforts of staff and some extra resource money are aimed toward specific ends.

Hopefully the articles will be read closely by those in Sacramento who hold the purse strings. Surely they cannot remain unmoved by the needs of our children.
