U.S. Car Makers to Cut Jobs in Britain: The British subsidiaries of Ford and General Motors said they will eliminate a total of 2,400 jobs in Britain. Ford U.K. Ltd., Britain’s largest auto maker, will phase out 2,100 jobs, mostly on the production line, by the end of the year--5.4% of its British employment. GM’s Vauxhall Motors Ltd. said it plans to cut 300 of the 750 jobs at its spare parts warehouse in Luton, 30 miles northwest of central London, after completing work on an automated facility.
