UAW to Review Caterpillar Proposal: The United Auto Workers’ central bargaining committee was scheduled to meet late Monday in Peoria, Ill., to discuss Caterpillar Inc.’s proposal to resume bargaining for a new three-year contract. The manufacturer of earthmoving and construction equipment said late last week that it was ending its lockout of 5,650 UAW employees at two plants and would make new contract proposals if the UAW agreed to a meeting. The company said it was making the move “in good faith” to resolve the long labor dispute. Half of Caterpillar’s UAW-represented employees had been on strike or locked out since early November. The UAW has not responded to the proposal.
