Semtech Corp., a Newbury Park maker of rectifiers and other electronic components, said it has laid off 11% of its worldwide work force and completed the sale of its microelectronics business to Natel Engineering Co. Inc., a microcircuit manufacturer in Simi Valley.

A company spokesman would not comment on the reasons for the layoffs. He said the staff cuts were spread throughout the company’s operations in California, Texas, Mexico and Scotland. With the latest round of layoffs, Semtech’s work force has been reduced by 28% from about 415 one year ago.

Semtech said the microelectronics unit had a loss of about $600,000 on $1.6 million in revenue in its latest fiscal year. Semtech expects to record a loss of about $300,000 in connection with the sale in its fourth-quarter results.
