Harry Gant overcame a minor controversy to lead second-round qualifying for Sunday’s Daytona 500 with a fast lap of 189.693 m.p.h. on Daytona International Speedway’s 2 1/2-mile oval. Gant posted a lap of 190.702 on Sunday, but NASCAR officials disallowed it, ruling his car was a quarter-inch too low.
