VISX Inc. announced the appointment of E. Paul Eder as chief financial officer. The position was previously held by Alan R. McMillen, who remains president and chief operating officer of the Sunnyvale-based company.

Before joining VISX, Eder was a consultant to high-technology companies. From June, 1982, through November, 1990, he was executive vice president and chief financial officer of Anthem Electronics Inc.

The company also announced the promotion of Philip Davis to the position of vice president of sales. Davis was previously director of sales at VISX.
