Defense Cuts and Job Losses

In response to “Does Anybody Care About the State’s Defense Workers?” editorial, Jan. 27:
This is an excellent editorial. With layoffs looming, they need new training and jobs--and deserve both! However, in 1992 California is still part of the United States and this great land of opportunity!
Instead of waiting around for a fancy new job, there is always another option for people to consider: start a new business for themselves.
After five years’ duty in the Army during World War II, I returned from Europe in October, 1945. Two months later I started my own business as a manufacturer’s agent selling industrial products and components in California, Arizona and Nevada. Now 47 years later the company is still in business with about 12 employees. Yes, this country is still a great land with many opportunities to start a new business, provide a new service or develop a new product.
