Does he or doesn’t he?

Only his press aide knows for sure. And he ain’t saying.

Supervisor Deane Dana’s hair has darkened noticeably in recent months, as illustrated by our before (May, 1991) and after (February, 1992) surveillance photos.

Perhaps, Dana, 65, wants to spruce up his look for his reelection campaign when he goes before all the new constituents in his redrawn district.

One bit of advice, Mr. Supervisor: Don’t forget your umbrella when you go out in the rain.

My television or yours?:

A “thirtysomething” blonde, obviously smitten with the TV series of the same name, advertises in the singles section of L.A.’s Downtown Journal that she seeks a gentleman with “Ken Olin looks, Timothy Busfield humor. . . .”

Kinetic sculptor Dave Quick of Santa Monica has created such quirky works as:

* “Homage to Busby Berkeley”: A “chorus line” of white plastic bulls, dangling by fishhooks through their noses, turns to the tune of “Lullaby of Broadway.

* “Homage to Marcel Duchamp (Pig Descending a Staircase)”: A suspended pig makes a dramatic entrance down a staircase and exits through side doors.

* “Watch Out Vince”: In a re-enactment of an actual event, a motorized tarpaulin runs over major league baseball player Vince Coleman while an instrumental version of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” plays and a voice cries over and over, “Watch out, Vince!”

Now, Quick has completed his latest motorized creation, which goes on display at the Fullerton College Art Gallery this week.

It’s another re-enactment of a strange moment in sports--when former Yankee outfielder Dave Winfield threw a baseball that struck and killed a sea gull between innings of a game in Toronto in 1983. Winfield was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals, but the case was later dismissed.

Quick has titled the work: “Kill a Seagull--Go to Jail.”

Shevaun O’Sullivan of L.A. noticed that The Times recently apologized for inadvertently publishing the Astrological Forecast column for a Monday in the previous Saturday’s editions. She asks:

“Does this mean I focused on variety, discovery, personal magnetism, sex appeal, . . . remained close to home and took the initiative in getting to the heart of matters on Saturday when I should have waited until Monday?”

Focus on forgiveness now, Shevaun.

A 110-foot-tall Torrey pine in Beverly Gardens Park in Beverly Hills, which some scholars believe may be the largest of its kind in the world, has been admitted to the American Forestry Assn.’s prestigious National Register of Big Trees.
