Video Rental Chart : ‘Thelma & Louise’ Still Leads the Pack

Share

“Thelma & Louise” could hang on to the top spot of the Billboard magazine rental chart for another few weeks--particularly if it hauls in some Oscar nominations next week. Some video retailers are reporting that it has a whopping lead over the competition.

The Patrick Swayze action film “Point Break,” which bounded from No. 6 to No. 3, seems to be building momentum and could make a strong run at the top.

Spike Lee’s “Jungle Fever” continues its slow climb up the chart, rising two more notches to No. 6. “Mobsters,” the gangster film featuring some of Hollywood’s hottest young hunks, debuted at No. 11. The Mel Brooks’ comedy “Life Stinks” entered at No. 19.

* As expected, “Hot Shots,” the wild spoof about macho jet fighter pilots, shot up the rental chart, debuting at No. 9. The sky’s the limit for this Charlie Sheen movie, which fared surprisingly well at the box office, grossing over $70 million.
