Heidi Zurbriggen of Switzerland, ninth-fastest skier in the women’s Alpine combined downhill Wednesday at Meribel, was disqualified by the race jury because she started more than three seconds ahead of the official timer.

Kristin Krone of Truckee, Calif., who fell in the last World Cup downhill at Grindelwald, Switzerland, earlier this month, crashed again in the women’s Alpine combined downhill.

The incident occurred about one-third of the way down the course when Krone flew off the second--and biggest--bump, landed on the tails of her skis and careened into the safety netting. She got up at once and suffered no serious injuries.

Krista Schmidinger of Lee, Mass., second to Austria’s Petra Kronberger in the women’s Alpine combined downhill, was on the U.S. ski team’s B roster at the start of this season.

Schmidinger, 21, who is 10 minutes older than her skiing twin sister, Kim, said recently: “I’d love to be in the Olympics, but I don’t want to be there unless I’m competitive.”
