Santa Monica : Open Space to Remain
The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District formally pledged to preserve open space at Los Amigos Park in Ocean Park despite plans to build a 660-student middle school there.
In response to fears from the community that it would lose valuable recreational land, school board members passed a resolution during Tuesday’s meeting to keep the same open space-to-building ratio that now exists at the district-owned park.
The $7.5-million middle school, scheduled to open in three years, is part of a $10-million reorganization plan approved in October to fix aging buildings and better meet educational needs in Ocean Park.
