OXNARD : Council Approves Sidewalk Project

Share

The Oxnard City Council has approved the construction of a sidewalk on the east side of Oxnard Boulevard between Colonia Road and the Oxnard Transportation Center.

The sidewalk will fill in a one-third-mile gap in a heavily used pedestrian corridor between the La Colonia community and the center, said Jay Patel, a city engineer.

The project was recommended by the Inter-Neighborhood Council three years ago.

Plans have now been completed, and the necessary right of way donated by the Southern Pacific railroad, said Hung Le of the city’s Public Works Department.

Planning has already cost $9,100, with another $57,000 in city and county funds available to complete it, Le told the council Tuesday.

The seven-foot-wide sidewalk will make trips to the Transportation Center easier and safer, Patel said.

Many residents cross Oxnard Boulevard twice in the four blocks to the center to use the sidewalk on the west side, he said.
