RIVER PATROL: This week’s storm has brought a host of strange sights, but maybe none more so than California Highway Patrolman Alvin Yamaguchi bagging his biggest catch--without a hook, or even a pole (A3). He was on traffic duty Thursday at Irvine Boulevard and Lambert Road east of Irvine, which turned into a small river, when he scooped up a 35-pound carp, an escapee from a nearby overflowing reservoir. . . . “I had to take a picture; nobody believed me,” he says.
