Scott Leads Loyola Past Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA — Christian Scott took over for Terrell Lowery and shot Loyola Marymount into overtime, where the Lions pulled out an 86-83 victory over Santa Clara Thursday night in a West Coast Conference game.
Lowery picked up three fouls in the first 10:53 and fouled out with 8:28 left in regulation. He scored seven points, ending his streak of 55 games in double figures.
Santa Clara (10-12 overall, 6-3 in the WCC) had a 72-65 lead with 2:06 left. Scott scored seven points in the closing minutes, including a three-pointer with 10 seconds left to tie the score, 74-74.
Craig Holt’s basket with 3:03 left in overtime put Loyola (12-10, 5-5) ahead to stay, 78-77, and Scott added a baskets seconds later. Tony Walker had four consecutive points as the Lions built the lead to 84-79 with 35 seconds left.
Ron Ries had 31 points and 16 rebounds for Santa Clara.
