Army Reinstates Comarco Contract

Comarco Inc., a defense engineering services company, said Friday that the Army has reinstated a contract award valued at $35 million that had been put up for review after protests from the losing bidders.

The Army’s Joint Interoperability Test Center said earlier this month that it will review the contract award at the recommendation of the General Accounting Office, which examines protests.

A joint venture of Comarco and Virginia-based ManTech International won an initial, $14.3-million contract in August, 1991, to provide testing and engineering services at the Army’s weapons testing center in Fort Huachuca, Ariz. Over five years, the contract’s potential was $98 million, with $35 million of it earmarked for Comarco.

“We are also gratified that this review process is over, and we can now begin work on this contract,” said Don Bailey, Comarco president.

Losing bidders still have a right to appeal, but Bailey said he is confident that the decision will stand after two favorable reviews.
