Strike Supplants Lockout at Caterpillar: Though the Peoria, Ill.-based heavy equipment firm asked union employees to return to work Sunday night, picketers simply changed their placards from signs reading “Locked Out” to ones marked “On Strike.” Representatives of the 5,600 United Auto Workers members locked out of work since Nov. 4 said they will not return without a contract. Contract talks are scheduled to resume Wednesday. Talks collapsed Oct. 31, with the union demanding a contract patterned after a UAW agreement with Deere & Co.
