Poll Says Small Business Is Forlorn About Outlook: Proprietors of small businesses have become more pessimistic about the economy, reporting their worst drop in sales in 18 years, according to a new survey. The National Federation of Independent Business said 39% of the small businesses that responded to the January survey indicated that they suffered a drop in sales since the previous NFIB survey in October. Only 23% of respondents reported higher sales. “Reports of sales declines were the worst in the 18-year history of the quarterly economic report,” the group said.
