MAI Systems Inc.: The Tustin-based marketer of business computer software reported a first-quarter loss of $2 million.

The loss compares to a loss of $17.9 million for the same period a year earlier. On a per-share basis, the company lost 10 cents a share, compared to 55 cents a year earlier.

Revenue fell 8.6% for the quarter ended Dec. 31, to $76.9 million; revenue was $84.2 million a year earlier. The company attributed lower revenue to reduced sales in Canada and lower revenue from maintenance fees from installed company computers.
